Picturesque village house – 308 CER

Nestled in the small, high-altitude village of Céreste, this authentic house will delight you with its Provençal charm and peaceful surroundings.

Surroundings

Céreste enchants visitors with its narrow, cobbled streets and old medieval stone houses, its avenue of plane trees along the old Roman pilgrimage route Via Domitia, which runs through the centre of the town. The remains of a Roman bridge and the Saint-Michel church from the 12th century are a particular highlight.
The village also has a special connection to René Char, an important French poet of the 20th century. During the Second World War, Char joined the Resistance and used the secluded landscapes of the Luberon, and Céreste in particular, as a retreat and source of inspiration. His work often reflects the beauty and resistance of the region.
For nature lovers, Céreste offers numerous hiking and well-signposted cycle paths that lead through the beautiful surroundings of the Luberon, for example the ‘V863 Autour du Luberon’ cycle route. The route takes you through the numerous perched villages, bories, castles, monuments, but also modest buildings: wash houses, fountains, chapels… Electric bikes can be hired in the village. There are many nice cafés and restaurants in the village, a weekly market, a bakery, a butcher, a pharmacy, two shops and a bus stop (line 915 from Avignon).

Garden and land

You have a small garden in front of the house (about 25 m2) where you can have your meals, drink a glass of wine in the evening and laze around. The basement of the house is rich in garden furniture (parasol, several tables, plastic and wooden chairs, deckchairs, etc.), so there is something for everyone.

The property

The small, typically Provençal stone house is 400 years old and is located right next to the medieval town gate in a picturesque alleyway in the old town, where you can hear only the cries of swifts and crickets and no traffic noise. It offers sweeping views of the Luberon from every window.

Ground floor
The cellar is located on the ground floor and gives you access to the garden furniture.

First floor
A small, sloping path takes you to the front door of the house, which is on the first floor. When you walk through this door, you will find yourself in the living and dining room with views of the beautiful landscape and lavender fields. The open, well-equipped kitchen is located on the right-hand side. Opposite is a room that serves as a laundry room with washing machine and tumble dryer, as well as a separate WC.
The small Franco-German library in the living room has a number of works from the region for you to immerse yourself in.

Second floor
A small staircase (beware, it is a little steep and the ceiling is low at this point) leads you to the first floor, where there are two bedrooms. One room has a single bed, a chest of drawers and a walk-in wardrobe, the other room has two single beds and storage space. There is a desk in every room, making it possible to work from home with a relaxing view of the Provence countryside. At the end of the hallway is the bathroom with WC and bathtub.

There is also a public swimming pool in the village, which is a 15-minute walk from your house.
